TeacherActive is looking for resilient, patient and engaging 1:1 Tutors to work with young people across Leicester City who require education outside of a mainstream school setting.

The pupils we support may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health / SEMH needs, display challenging behaviour, have experienced permanent exclusion, or have struggled to engage successfully within a traditional classroom environment.

As a 1:1 SEMH Tutor, your role will be about much more than delivering academic work. You'll need to build trust, establish consistent boundaries and gradually re-engage pupils with learning at a pace that works for them.

Sessions may take place within the pupil's home or an agreed community setting, with tuition tailored around their individual needs, ability and circumstances.

The successful 1:1 Tutor will have:

• Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
• Experience supporting pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion
• Confidence working independently on a 1:1 basis
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with disengaged learners
• A calm, resilient and non-judgemental approach
• Experience within education, SEND, alternative provision, youth work or a similar setting
• A strong understanding of safeguarding

Your role could include:

• Delivering engaging and accessible 1:1 tuition
• Re-engaging pupils who have become disengaged from education
• Supporting core subjects such as English and Maths
• Adapting activities around the pupil's ability, interests and needs
• Managing challenging behaviour positively and consistently
• Supporting pupils to develop confidence, routine and positive attitudes towards learning
• Recording attendance, engagement and progress
• Liaising with parents, carers and other professionals where appropriate
