Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant – Stoke-on-Trent

A welcoming secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent (ST5 8JN) is looking for enthusiastic and committed Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistants to join its SEN and Inclusion team from September 2026.

The Role

As a Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

• Supporting students who experience barriers to learning and academic progress

• Working with pupils with needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties

• Supporting pupils with their academic, social and emotional development

• Assisting teachers in delivering inclusive and engaging lessons

• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

• Encouraging confidence, independence and positive engagement with learning

• Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

• Helping adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs

• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers and the SEN team

• Working collaboratively with teaching staff and other education professionals

This role will give you valuable insight into how schools support pupils with additional needs and how psychological principles can be applied within an educational environment.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from graduates who are passionate about supporting young people and are considering a future career in psychology, education, SEND or mental health.

You'll ideally have:

• A Psychology degree, with a First Class or 2:1 preferred

• Final-year Psychology students are also encouraged to apply

• A genuine interest in working with children and young people

• A strong interest in SEN, educational psychology or mental health

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• A patient, empathetic and resilient approach

• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils

• A proactive and professional attitude

• A willingness to learn from experienced teachers and SEN professionals

• The right to work in the UK on a full-time basis

Previous experience working with children, young people or individuals with additional needs would be beneficial but is not essential.
