A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to step into a Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse role within a friendly and supportive small animal practice in County Durham.

The Role

Working alongside the Head Veterinary Nurse, the Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse will play a key role in the day-to-day leadership of the nursing team.

The role will involve supporting and mentoring RVNs, Student Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants, helping colleagues develop their clinical skills and ensuring consistently high standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities will include supporting standards across anaesthesia, inpatient care and theatre, assisting with staff training and clinical coaching, maintaining effective workflows and infection control, and helping with stock, equipment and practice protocols.

The Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse will also deputise for the Head Nurse when required and work closely with the veterinary surgeons, reception team and wider practice.

What’s needed?

The practice is looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with previous small animal experience who is ready to take on more responsibility.

The ideal candidate will be:

• Confident, organised and able to lead by example
• Passionate about high standards of patient welfare and clinical care
• A supportive and approachable team player
• Keen to mentor and develop colleagues
• An excellent communicator with both clients and colleagues
• Ambitious to progress within veterinary nursing leadership

Previous senior or leadership experience would be advantageous but is not essential. The right attitude, enthusiasm and desire to develop are just as important.
