Secondary Teaching Assistant – Secondary School in Bury

A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Bury is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join their team. The role is for a September start and would suit someone who is passionate about supporting students and helping them achieve their potential across a range of secondary subjects.

Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, a graduate looking to pursue a career in teaching, or someone with transferable experience working with young people, this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience while making a meaningful difference to students' learning and development.

Working alongside teachers across a variety of subject areas, you will play an important role in creating a positive, supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to succeed.

Your Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across a range of secondary subjects
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning and support academic progress
  • Encourage students to participate, build confidence and develop independence in the classroom
  • Assist with preparing learning resources, activities and classroom materials
  • Provide additional support to students who require further guidance with their learning
  • Encourage positive behaviour and contribute to a calm and productive classroom environment
  • Build strong and positive relationships with students, teachers and parents/carers
  • Support the school's commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of students

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people in a school, childcare, tutoring, coaching or similar environment (desirable)
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting young people's education, development and wellbeing
  • Is positive, reliable, approachable and enthusiastic
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Works well both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Is proactive, flexible and willing to learn
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, or is willing to undertake relevant training
  • Holds a relevant qualification or degree (desirable but not essential)
