Location: Darlington
Contract: Term-time only
Hours: 08:30 – 15:30, Monday – Friday
Start: September start available

Are you dedicated to supporting children with additional needs? Looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a specialist setting? Milk Education is working in partnership with a SEND provision to recruit an Autism Support Worker to join their committed team.


About the school…
This SEND school supports pupils aged 2 to 19, many of whom have complex and multiple learning difficulties, as well as speech, language and communication needs, alongside physical or sensory challenges.

Role: Autism Support Worker


In this position, you will work closely with the Class Teacher and wider staff team to support pupils’ education, wellbeing, and everyday care needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures
  • Provide support with feeding, personal care, and hygiene when required
  • Assist in lesson delivery by adapting activities, encouraging engagement, and supporting learning
  • Help manage behaviour in line with the school’s strategies
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support communication and confidence
  • Observe, track, and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and well-being

Essential Criteria (Non-Negotiables)

  • Recent experience supporting children or adults with learning disabilities in care or educational settings
  • Willingness to provide personal care (including feeding and hygiene support)
  • Ability to stay calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
  • A compassionate, adaptable, and resilient approach
