Depot Manager – Warehouse Operations

A Depot Manager is responsible for the overall operation and management of a distribution warehouse or depot, overseeing staff, stock levels, deliveries, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while adhering to company policies and safety regulations. Key duties include managing incoming and outgoing goods, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supervising warehouse personnel to meet delivery deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Monitor stock levels to maintain optimal inventory and prevent stockouts.

  • Receive and check incoming deliveries for accuracy.

  • Manage stock rotation to ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.

  • Perform regular stock checks and resolve discrepancies.

Staff Supervision

  • Lead and motivate a team of warehouse workers, including drivers, loaders, and warehouse operatives.

  • Assign tasks and ensure efficient workflow.

  • Conduct performance management, including coaching, training, and disciplinary actions.

  • Schedule staff to meet operational needs.

Operations Management

  • Oversee the picking, packing, and loading of orders for delivery.

  • Manage warehouse space and optimize storage layouts.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Implement operational procedures and quality control standards.

Customer Service

  • Respond to customer inquiries and address delivery issues.

  • Liaise with sales teams to ensure accurate order fulfillment.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Generate reports on KPIs such as stock levels, delivery times, and operational costs.

  • Analyse data to identify areas for improvement and implement changes.

Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate deliveries with transport providers.

  • Manage vehicle maintenance and scheduling.

  • Monitor and optimize delivery routes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.

  • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for inventory tracking and order processing.

  • Strong understanding of distribution processes, including picking, packing, and shipping.

  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, customers, and other departments.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to resolve operational issues quickly.

  • Analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.

Relevant Experience: Previous experience as a warehouse supervisor or similar role in logistics or distribution is preferred.
