PURCHASE LEDGER CLERK / ACCOUNTS PAYABLE ASSISTANT

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8.30am–5.00pm; Friday, 8.30am–4.00pm

We are working with an established and successful company based in Winsford that is looking to recruit an experienced Purchase Ledger Clerk / Accounts Payable Assistant to join its finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys working in a busy environment and takes pride in maintaining accurate financial records.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the purchase ledger function, ensuring supplier invoices, payments and reconciliations are processed accurately and efficiently.

PURCHASE LEDGER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date purchase ledger, ensuring all transactions are correctly recorded.
• Process supplier invoices, checking accuracy and matching against purchase orders and goods received.
• Reconcile supplier statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Monitor and reconcile Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) balances, including outstanding purchase orders and unmatched receipts.
• Prepare and process supplier payments accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Handle purchase ledger and payment queries, liaising with suppliers, internal departments and service providers.
• Produce weekly and monthly financial reports for the management team.
• Assist with general finance administration, including answering telephone enquiries.
• Support the wider finance team with additional accounting and administrative duties as required.

PURCHASE LEDGER SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Previous experience working in a Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable or similar finance role is essential.
• Good understanding of purchase ledger processes, including invoice matching, supplier reconciliations and payment processing.
• Experience with GRNI reconciliations and purchase order processing.
• AAT Level 2 qualification or currently studying towards AAT would be advantageous.
• Experience using Oracle NetSuite would be desirable, although not essential.
• Confident working with computerised accounting systems and paperless finance processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise professionally with suppliers and colleagues.
• A proactive, reliable and flexible approach to work.

PURCHASE LEDGER SALARY & BENEFITS

• Salary of £28,000–£30,000 per annum, depending on experience.

• Early finish on Fridays at 4.00pm.
