Graduate Teaching Assistant Think you could be a great teacher, but want to experience the classroom before committing to training? Looking for a graduate role where you'll actually develop, rather than spend the year photocopying and observing? Want to spend 2026/27 building the skills that could take you into teacher training in September 2027? KPI Education is partnering with an ambitious secondary school in Brentford, Hounslow, to recruit a talented Graduate Teaching Assistant for the 2026/27 academic year. The school isn't simply looking for another Teaching Assistant. They're looking for a potential future teacher. You'll spend the year working alongside experienced teachers, supporting pupils academically and gradually developing the confidence, classroom presence and practical skills needed to decide whether teaching is the career for you. Why Spend Your Graduate Year Here?
This Isn't a Year of Standing at the Back of a Classroom The school wants its graduates to get involved. You might start your morning supporting a Year 8 lesson before working individually with a pupil who has fallen behind. Later, you could run a GCSE revision group, support a pupil with additional learning needs or work with high-achieving students who need to be stretched academically. You'll create resources, monitor progress, provide feedback to teachers and become a familiar, trusted presence around the school. And as you develop? Your responsibilities can develop with you. For graduates who demonstrate the right confidence and ability, there may be opportunities to lead interventions, deliver sections of lessons and begin developing your own classroom practice under the guidance of qualified teachers. By the end of the year, you'll have a far clearer understanding of what being a teacher involves. About the School Based in Brentford, the school serves a diverse community of young people from across Hounslow and West London. It combines high academic expectations with a strong pastoral culture, creating an environment where pupils are expected to work hard while receiving the support they need to succeed. You'll join an established team of teachers and Heads of Department who understand that graduates need mentoring, exposure and responsibility if they're going to develop. Classrooms are purposeful, expectations are clear and graduates are encouraged to become genuine members of the wider school community. Who Could Be a Great Fit? You don't need to have already worked in a school. You do need to be bright, confident, articulate and genuinely interested in working with young people. Applications are particularly welcomed from graduates in: English | Mathematics | Biology | Chemistry | Physics | History | Geography | Languages | Psychology | Humanities | STEM and related subjects A strong academic background and 2:1 or First-Class degree would be highly desirable. More importantly, you'll need the confidence to explain ideas clearly, build relationships with teenagers and respond positively when you're challenged. The school is looking for graduates with potential, not finished teachers. Could You Be Teaching This Time Next Year? If teaching has been in the back of your mind but you're not ready to jump straight into a PGCE, this is an opportunity to find out whether the classroom is where you belong. Spend an academic year learning from experienced teachers, developing your own style and gaining the kind of school-based experience that will put you in a fantastic position for future teacher training.
