TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher to join a thriving secondary school in Southall, West London, starting in September.

The school is a diverse and inclusive secondary setting with a sixth form, providing pupils with a broad and ambitious curriculum. The school places a strong emphasis on high expectations, pupil achievement and preparing young people for their future.

As a Food Technology Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons across KS3 and KS4. You will help pupils develop their knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, healthy eating, food safety and practical cooking skills, while supporting students working towards relevant GCSE qualifications.

You will be responsible for creating a safe, organised and engaging practical learning environment where pupils can develop confidence and independence. You will ensure that appropriate health, safety and hygiene procedures are consistently followed during practical lessons.

Working alongside colleagues within the department and wider school, you will monitor pupil progress, differentiate learning and provide appropriate support and challenge to ensure pupils of different abilities can achieve their potential.

The successful Food Technology Teacher will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Experience teaching Food Technology/Food Preparation and Nutrition
  • Strong subject knowledge across KS3 and KS4
  • Experience delivering GCSE-level content
  • Strong practical cooking and food preparation knowledge
  • A good understanding of nutrition, food hygiene and food safety
  • The ability to plan engaging practical and theory-based lessons
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to differentiate lessons for different abilities
  • A creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Food Technology/Food Preparation and Nutrition across KS3 and KS4
  • Plan and deliver engaging practical and theory lessons
  • Deliver GCSE content where appropriate
  • Teach pupils practical cooking and food preparation techniques
  • Develop pupils’ understanding of nutrition, healthy eating and food science
  • Ensure high standards of food hygiene, health and safety
  • Prepare and organise resources for practical lessons
  • Differentiate teaching according to pupils’ individual abilities
  • Assess, monitor and record pupil progress
  • Maintain a safe, organised and positive classroom environment
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, creativity and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and prioritise pupil wellbeing
