Primary Intervention Support Assistant

Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Gateshead to recruit a Primary Intervention Support Assistant to join their dedicated team from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who require additional academic, social, or emotional support, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Primary Intervention Support Assistant – Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver targeted intervention sessions in literacy and numeracy to individuals and small groups.
  • Support pupils who require additional help to access the curriculum.
  • Work alongside the class teacher to reinforce learning and monitor progress.
  • Prepare learning resources and adapt activities to meet pupils' individual needs.

Pupil Support & Wellbeing

  • Build positive relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Teamwork & Professional Practice

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and senior leaders.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.
  • Contribute positively to the wider school community.

Primary Intervention Support Assistant – Essential Criteria

  • Recent experience working with primary-aged children in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience delivering interventions or supporting pupils with additional learning needs is desirable.
  • A positive, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children's learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Must live locally to Gateshead or be able to commute daily—no relocation.
