Plumbing Engineer – $80,000-110,000/year – New York, NY

The Role

Avcon Engineering, a full-service engineering firm specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm design, is looking for a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer to design and prepare plumbing and sprinkler systems drawings and specifications.

The successful candidate will participate in Plumbing/Fire Protection systems engineering for commercial, residential, retail, civic, etc., projects.

The key responsibilities of a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer include, but are not limited to:

• Preparation of engineering design documents and specifications.
• Coordinate projects with multiple MEP disciplines for scheduling and design. Communicate with owners, outside consultants, and contractors during design and construction phases.
• Development of concept designs, performing calculations, design and selection of the appropriate equipment and systems.
• Perform field surveys and preparation of various reports, such as property condition, due diligence, field observation and punch list.
• Attend design and construction meetings with the project consultants and design team.
• Assist lead Engineer with project management and coordination.
• Review and use Design Guidelines and office standards.
• Review and processing of contractors’ submittals/shop drawings, respond to RFI’s, etc., during construction.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer:

• 3-5 years’ prior experience in a similar role, with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering preferred.
• Exceptional knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Technical design skills in order to map out the logistics for plumbing systems.
• Knowledge of hydraulic principles is required
• AutoCAD proficiency is a must
• Working Experience with Revit
• Knowledge of local NYC building and energy codes, NFPA, etc.
• Ability to communicate well orally and strong writing skills.
