Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant: Person Specification • Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Recent or soon-to-be graduate in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child or Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology or related field • Ideally from a top-tier university with a strong academic background (minimum 2:2 classification) • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs • Must demonstrate resilience, emotional intelligence, patience and adaptability • Previous experience working with children, either in educational or therapeutic settings, is highly desirable – though not essential • Strong communication skills, empathy, and an eagerness to learn from experienced professionals are essential Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant: Role Specification This Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunity offers you a rare and invaluable experience. You’ll join a leading hospital school in Wandsworth that works with children and adolescents who are unable to attend mainstream education due to serious mental health issues. The school provides a blend of academic teaching and therapeutic support to students aged 5–18, all of whom are navigating complex emotional and psychological challenges. As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will: • Provide a calm, consistent and reassuring presence to children and young people in emotionally charged environments • Support academic learning across a range of subjects, often on a 1-1 or very small group basis • Help young people re-engage with education while understanding and respecting their mental health needs • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, educational psychologists and medical staff to provide a holistic approach to each pupil’s progress • Build trust and rapport with young people who may be guarded or withdrawn, always with compassion and professional boundaries • Reflect on your own practice and take part in regular training and debriefing to help you grow • This Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant role is full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm, during term-time This specialist hospital school in Wandsworth supports pupils who are receiving treatment for a range of acute and complex mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related illness, eating disorders and more. Some are inpatients at the hospital, while others receive tuition at home or in transition back to mainstream education. This Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant role will not be easy.
