Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: About the School

This school is an alternative provision serving pupils aged 4-16 who have often been permanently excluded from mainstream settings, or are at risk of exclusion.
It offers short- and long-term placements tailored for social, emotional, mental health needs, plus additional learning difficulties.  


Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Your Role

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant you will be responsible for:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH, behaviour needs, and/or learning difficulties, helping them access lessons and rebuild confidence
  • Collaborate closely with class teachers, therapists, and the SENCo to adapt curriculum, resources, and strategies for each pupil’s needs
  • Support in personal, emotional, and social development: helping students regulate emotions, build resilience, and engage positively with school life
  • Maintain records of progress, behaviour, attendance, and liaise with families and other agencies to ensure holistic support
  • Supporting the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification

KPi Education are looking for a standout Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant who:

  • Has a 2:1 or above in Psychology, Education, Child Development or related subject
  • Understands or is willing to learn about SEMH needs, EHCPs, and strategies for behaviour support
  • Being able to deal with emotional and physical challenges presented by regular involvement in physical intervention
  • First aid training/training
  • Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Previous experience in SEN or alternative provision settings is desirable but not essential
