As a 1-1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work with students aged up to 18 who have EHCPs, physical disabilities, communication challenges, or sensory needs. You’ll provide personal care, adapt learning materials, support therapeutic interventions, and help each learner access the curriculum in ways that work for them.


Graduate 1-1 SEN Teaching Assistant: Your Role

In your role as a Graduate 1-1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support to pupils with EHCPs, tailoring learning, communication, and personal care to meet each child’s individual needs
  • Assist with sensory processing and communication tools (PECS, visual timetables, adapted communication methods)
  • Help with personal care tasks (where needed), ensuring dignity and promoting independence
  • Use strong safeguarding awareness at all times
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and behaviour, contributing to individual learning plans

Graduate 1-1 SEN Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification

We are seeking a compassionate and committed Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant who meets the following:

  • Holds a 2:1 or higher degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Speech & Language, or a related field
  • Understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, and experience or willingness to work with communication tools like PECS, Makaton or visual supports
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge, and a willingness to maintain high standards of safety, first aid competency and child protection
  • Empathy, resilience, adaptability, and patient communication skill
