Principal Process Engineer - Gas Projects

Location: Doha, Qatar

A leading global energy company is seeking a highly experienced Principal Process Engineer to contribute to the development and execution of major greenfield and brownfield gas projects. This role involves coordinating technical input across all project stages to optimize design and ensure the successful delivery of facilities that meet business goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct independent technical studies to support feasibility, conceptual development, and opportunity assessments. Review and validate proposed concepts, equipment demands, energy requirements, and emissions.
• Undertake or review essential studies such as simulation, energy demand optimization, greenhouse gas emissions estimation, and cost estimation to ensure the suitability and effectiveness of surface facility designs.
• Participate in project reviews, risk assessments, technical bid evaluations, and workshops to identify cost-effective designs for new developments.
• Review project execution deliverables throughout the lifecycle to ensure facility designs are technically sound, fit for purpose, and aligned with business objectives.
• Perform lifecycle techno-economic evaluations for new field developments and existing facility expansions to assess economics and commercial viability in line with corporate strategies.
• Develop and oversee contracting strategies, ensuring alignment with project requirements and maintaining competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
• Review and validate technical inputs used in commercial and fiscal agreements.
• Monitor and review progress reports from JV, EPSA, or external consultants, identifying major risks and opportunities to recommend necessary actions for achieving project goals.
• Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects and existing operations to identify synergies and reduce CAPEX and OPEX.
• Maintain technical databases for facilities, ensuring accurate design specifications, costs, and schedules.
• Act as the surface facilities focal point, collaborating with subsurface, commercial, finance, and legal teams to ensure safe and effective project development.
• Conduct technical reviews of field development plans and business plans submitted by JV/EPSA partners, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
• Review discrepancies in the Annual Work Program & Budget (WP&B) to ensure the effective implementation of major projects and field development plans.
• Mentor Qatari engineers, supporting their career development and contributing to talent development programs.

Key Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (or a related field).
• Experience: Minimum 15 years in the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years of experience in brownfield and greenfield oil and gas projects.
• Technical Expertise: Strong background in all stages of the gas project lifecycle, including operating assets. Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation engineering is desirable.
• Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with process simulation software (e.g., Hysys, Pipesim), piping hydraulic calculation tools (e.g., Questor), and other related software.
• Project Development: Proven track record in large-scale greenfield and brownfield upstream developments, including Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design stages.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiar with international standards for process deliverables and gas processing facilities.
• Flow Assurance: Experience in dynamic flow assurance and interpreting its outputs and impacts.
• Economic Evaluation: Expertise in producing order-of-magnitude cost estimates and conducting economic evaluations of project concepts.
