Job Title - Group Purchasing Manager

Salary - Competitive

Location - Outskirts of Birmingham

Contract - Fulltime, Permanent

Hours - 8:00am - 5:00pm (Mon to Fri) & 8:00am - 2:00pm (Fri)

Purpose of Role

The successful Purchasing Manager will be responsible for delivering the maximum value to the client by managing the procurement of services and capital expenditure items in conjunction with the relevant line managers. The role will also manage the Buyer (Services and Cap-Ex).

You will attend regular visits to other group sites as well as suppliers, international travel may be required.

Duties of the Purchasing Manager

• Create and Deliver Commodity strategies including:

1. CAPEX / 2nd Operations (post mould)
2. Packaging
3. Logistics
4. Consumables

• Directly managing indirect spend in the Midlands & manage a business unit of 1 remote head (for spend in Yorkshire & Scotland)
• To act as the Sourcing: Manage from RFQ to SOP on new business awards
• Day to Day commercial management of the supplier base, including cost reduction
• Maximize profitability through idea generation on commercial or process wins
• Support MP&L: Manage supplier delivery issues /negotiate claims

Skills & Knowledge of the Purchasing Manager

• Degree qualified, possibly in Business Management or a numerate discipline (desirable)
• CIPS desirable but not mandatory
• Experience as a Buyer /Graduate Buyer
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate a track record in delivery and accountability
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following skills:

1. Computing: Excel / PowerPoint
2. Literacy and Numeracy
3. Strong analytical skills
4. Strong negotiation skills
5. Can do approach

• Experience leading a Team would be advantageous
• Strong numeracy and communication skills
• Ability to summarize complex data and present to management
• Flexible approach to support business needs, as and when required
• Work independently and part of a team
• Office based but supplier and manufacturing site visits necessary
