Assistant Shift Manager – Food Manufacturing (Redditch)

Salary: £31,500 – £34,500 DOE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 14:30 – 23:30
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Assistant Shift Manager to support the day-to-day running of our food production site in Redditch. You’ll be responsible for overseeing multiple production lines and Cell Leaders, ensuring operational efficiency, product quality, food safety, and compliance with health & safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, motivate, and support Cell Leaders and production teams to achieve targets.

  • Assign roles and provide clear instructions to ensure smooth production flow.

  • Carry out performance reviews, probation meetings, and support HR processes.

  • Drive engagement and accountability across your shift.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure food safety, GMP, and health & safety standards are upheld at all times.

  • Take ownership of weekly audits, compliance checks, and documentation.

  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, carry out root cause analysis, and escalate to engineering when required.

  • Proactively manage attendance levels and team performance.

Continuous Improvement & Performance

  • Present quarterly profit improvement plans to senior management.

  • Support the launch of new products and continuous improvement projects.

  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve production delays and improve processes.

KPIs & Success Measures

  • GMP score > 85%

  • Plan attainment > 95%

  • Effective CCP checks and escalation of issues

  • Reduction in waste and product giveaway

  • Accurate and timely paperwork

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience in food manufacturing (essential).

  • Ability to work in ambient and chilled environments.

  • Strong communication skills, fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Hands-on, adaptable, and passionate about continuous improvement.

  • Physically fit to work in a fast-paced, production-focused role.
