Graduate Learning Support Assistant: About the Opportunity

As a Graduate LSA, you’ll work closely with the school’s SEND team, assisting pupils who require additional support, helping to improve their outcomes, confidence, and engagement. You’ll gain hands-on experience in one-to-one support, small-group interventions, and behaviour support strategies, working in a safe and structured environment that values professional development and safeguarding.


Graduate Learning Support Assistant: Job Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, helping them access and engage with lessons
  • Support behaviour management using positive strategies, while encouraging pupils’ social and emotional development
  • Work with the teacher and SENDCo to adapt lessons, prepare resources, and ensure learning is accessible
  • Track pupil progress and contribute to feedback sessions with staff and parents
  • Assist with personal care needs where required, always in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, maintain safe practice, and prioritise pupil welfare at all times

Graduate Learning Support Assistant: Candidate Specification

  • Holds a 2:1 or above degree in any subject
  • Demonstrates strong communication, empathy, and flexibility
  • Has a genuine passion for working with young children and supporting SEND
  • Is resilient, patient, and can adapt to varied learning and behavioural needs
  • Has understanding or willingness to learn about SEND tools and strategies (visual supports, differentiated instruction, etc.)
  • Possesses good safeguarding knowledge; first aid training is a plus
  • Previous experience in a school, tutoring or volunteering role is desirable but not essential
