Principal Process Engineer - Oil Field Projects

Location: Doha, Qatar

A major energy company is seeking a Principal Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and coordination during the development and execution of significant greenfield and brownfield oil projects. This role will involve designing, optimizing, and assessing the adequacy of facilities for domestic and international oil field developments, supporting the initiation of projects for operated oil assets, and ensuring technical excellence in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical studies to support feasibility and conceptual development of oil projects, validating proposed concepts, equipment demand, and energy/emission requirements.
• Undertake and review simulation studies, energy demand estimations, optimization processes, and cost estimation to evaluate the suitability of surface facilities designs.
• Participate in project reviews, risk assessments, design workshops, and technical bid evaluations to ensure the selection of cost-effective designs.
• Review critical project deliverables during the project lifecycle, ensuring the facility designs meet technical and economic objectives.
• Perform lifecycle techno-economic evaluations to assess the feasibility and commerciality of new field developments or the expansion of existing facilities.
• Develop and manage contracting strategies and bidder selection to maintain competitiveness and cost-effectiveness in project execution.
• Review technical inputs for commercial and fiscal agreements and validate their alignment with project objectives.
• Monitor project progress reports and advise on major risks, opportunities, and necessary actions to ensure projects meet their targets.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer by incorporating lessons learned and optimizing CAPEX and OPEX across projects and assets.
• Maintain technical databases for facilities, including specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Act as the focal point for surface facilities, collaborating with subsurface, commercial, finance, legal, and external teams to ensure the development and operations align with company and regulatory standards.
• Review field development plans and business plans from JV/EPSA/DPSA partners, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies.
• Advise on discrepancies in annual work programs and budgets submitted by operators to ensure the effectiveness of field development plans.
• Mentor and coach Qatari engineers, supporting their career development and contributing to Qatarization initiatives.

Key Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (or a related field).
• Experience: Minimum of 15 years in the oil and gas industry with at least 5 years in brownfield/greenfield oil and gas projects.
• Project Experience: Familiarity with all stages of the oil project lifecycle and operational assets.
• Technical Knowledge: Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineering for process plant and equipment.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with process simulation tools (e.g., Hysys, Pipesim, Que$tor) and other engineering software.
• Industry Expertise: Proven track record in large-scale greenfield and brownfield upstream developments through various stages (Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Design).
• Standards & Regulations: Well-versed with international standards and process deliverables at each project stage.
• Project Management: Experience in developing execution plans, defining contracting strategies, and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Flow Assurance: Expertise in dynamic flow assurance and understanding the interpretation of related outputs.
• Economic Evaluations: Skilled in benchmarking, cost estimation, and conducting economic evaluations of oil projects.
