We’re pleased to present the opportunity to join Urenco as a Materials Handling Technician. Based at our Capenhurst, Chester location and it reports to the Materials Handling Team Leader. A member of a team responsible for the receipt, despatch, storage and onsite movement of all hex cylinders and the preparation of hex cylinders and other radioactive materials for external transport. The team is responsible for delivering cylinders to enrichment plants in accordance with the Group Sales Plan. All operations must be carried out safely, efficient and fully compliant with all regulations and customer requirements.

The maintenance, storage and handling of a large number of cylinders and cylinder related equipment within rapidly changing schedules is one of the most challenging aspects of the role.

What will your day look like?

• Carry out cylinder handling, inspection, monitoring and transport activities safely, efficiently and to required quality standards, working to defined procedures and strict regulatory requirements.
• Ensure cylinders are delivered to the enrichment plants on time and ensures all receipt and dispatch operations are carried out in accordance with delivery schedules and customer requirements
• Collect and record defined data, conducts checks, tests, calibrations and associated calculations, reports problems or abnormal conditions taking action to resolve those within own capability and authority.
• Handle and monitor radioactive material and their containers and surveys working areas to ensure contamination levels and dose rates are kept within required limits.
• Communicates with others in order to determine customer needs, provides appropriate feedback and maintains continuity of work.

What do you need to be great at this role?

• Proficient in the use of site computer systems and applications as appropriate for the role (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, email).
• Ability to apply computer keyboard skills and use software to input, extract and present data.
• Secondary vocational education. Ideally Grade C in Maths and English or a relevant NVQ qualification
• Ability to understand and interpret a range of measuring and test equipment.
• Good manual dexterity with required knowledge of and ability to use tools, drive vehicles and operate cranes.
• Verbal and written communication skills for task related duties with additional skills required for formal training and delivery.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of local health, safety, environment procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to recognise problems in work area and make positive contributions to their resolution.
• Basic dangerous goods transport training
