Peer Coordinator (HMP Highdown) – Full Time, Permanent – Sutton, Surrey - 35 hours per week - £25,154.00 - £27,948.00 per annum

Role Overview - Peer Coordinator (HMP Highdown):

This excellent opportunity involves working seamlessly with substance misuse teams who deliver services directly to service users aged 18 and over residing across Surrey Prisons. You will be based working across the region of Surrey, therefore travel will be required between sites.

The Peer Coordinator role is one that aspires to champion 'lived experience' and work with service users with aspirations to take on the role of peer supporters. These peer supporters will drive peer-led interventions across all prison wings.

This is an exciting time to join the services as we implement a new contract model and continue to develop projects and initiatives across the region. 

 

Role Responsibilities – Peer Coordinator (HMP Highdown):

  • Empower service users to transform into Peer Supporters and Health & Wellbeing Champions by delivering the necessary training, supervision, and guidance they need.
  • Collaborate closely with all personnel responsible for providing support and interventions to clients.
  • Cultivate relationships with supported clients, aimed at realizing the objectives outlined in their personalized action plans.
  • Record behaviour incidents diligently and utilize this data to shape forward-looking intervention tactics and strategies, fostering lasting enhancements to Substance Misuse Services.
  • Assume the primary role as a point of contact for peer supporters within the prison unit.

Flexibility will be required in this role and may include some evening/weekend shift and with reasonable notice.

 

Person Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice sector.
  • Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and deliver the training on a peer support programme.
  • Previous experience of providing a peer support service to this or a similar client group.
  • A thorough knowledge of and commitment to the process of recovery from addiction.
  • A Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Ability to sensitively and supportively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Possession of a recognised qualification, or willingness to start or ongoing attendance on a recognised course.
