Job Title: Senior Principal Process Engineer

Location: Doha, Qatar

Job Purpose

A leading organisation in the energy sector is seeking a highly experienced Senior Principal Process Engineer to support major downstream greenfield and brownfield developments. The role involves providing expert technical input across all stages of project development and execution. You will evaluate technologies, optimise designs, support commercial interfaces, and ensure delivery of robust, efficient facilities aligned with long-term strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop, and review Statements of Requirements for major downstream projects.
  • Assess process technologies and associated risks; recommend alternatives where appropriate.
  • Incorporate lessons learned and identify synergies to optimise CAPEX and OPEX across assets.
  • Conduct and review conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and techno-economic assessments.
  • Define and align project scopes of work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support development of contracting strategies, bidder selection, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Provide technical input to commercial and legal agreements.
  • Oversee engineering deliverables from Pre-FEED through FEED and EPIC phases.
  • Review and approve key process design documents and ensure compliance with project goals.
  • Manage project interface agreements, including tie-ins with third-party facilities.
  • Facilitate readiness for commissioning and smooth project handover to operations teams.
  • Participate in and lead reviews including HAZOP, value engineering, and cold eye assessments.
  • Track project progress, highlight risks and opportunities, and recommend actions for success.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support career development in line with workforce nationalisation plans.

     

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 18 years of oil and gas industry experience, with at least 7 years in downstream brownfield and greenfield project roles.
  • Proven experience in project development, design integration, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Knowledge of major downstream processes such as ethylene, ammonia, methanol, and polymers.
  • Familiarity with licensors and licensed technologies (e.g., AGRU, SRU, NGL, cracking, polymerisation).
  • Proficient in process simulation tools (e.g., HYSYS, PROII) and cost estimation software (e.g., QUE$TOR, ICARUS).
  • Solid understanding of process safety, utility balance, and major equipment specifications.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning of petrochemical facilities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to represent company interests in joint ventures.
