Our client, a respected charity based in Norwich, is seeking a Finance Director to provide strategic leadership and ensure the organisation's long-term financial sustainability. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior finance professional to play a key role in shaping the future of a purpose-driven organisation.

About the Role

As Finance Director, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and financial viability of the charity while overseeing finance and resource services. Working closely with the chief executive, trustees, and senior leadership, you will provide expert financial advice, drive financial strategy, and ensure robust governance and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead financial advisor to trustees, the chief executive, and senior management.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation across the organisation.
  • Ensure accountability to stakeholders, managing relationships with funders, partners, and regulators.
  • Establish and negotiate commercial partnerships to support financial growth.
  • Act as the external interface with banks, auditors, pension funds, investment managers, and social investors.
  • Oversee risk management, financial controls, and compliance across the charity and its subsidiaries.
  • Manage all accounting, taxation, IT, HR, property, and legal services within the organisation.
  • Lead, support, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Represent the charity externally and act as a spokesperson when required.

About You

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
  • Extensive experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, and governance.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to negotiate and establish external partnerships.
  • Proven ability to engage and advise senior stakeholders, trustees, and external partners.
  • Experience in risk management and financial control within a complex organisation.
  • A collaborative leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector is desirable but not essential.
