The opportunity

Do you see teaching as more than just a job? At our Burnley secondary school, we're searching for passionate Geography and Geology graduates (or those with strong A-levels in relevant subjects) who want to make a difference to young people's understanding of our world.

We need someone who can bring energy to teaching topics from tectonic hazards to climate change, from population dynamics to coastal processes.

Training structure

4+1 Model: Four days in school developing practical teaching skills, with one day per week (Wednesdays) for online professional development.

September–December: Observe expert teaching, team-teach with mentors, develop basic classroom management.

January–March: Take increasing responsibility for planning and teaching, focus on assessment strategies.

April–July: Lead classes independently, develop advanced teaching techniques, complete QTS qualification.

What you'll need

  • Geography, Geology or related degree (2:1 or higher preferred)
  • OR strong A-levels in Geography, Environmental Science or Geology
  • Passion for geographical education and current environmental issues
  • Communication skills that will engage young people
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Driving licence beneficial but not essential – good public transport links available
